A true story

I've told many people I'm writing this novel, if only to place pressure upon myself.

A Long Way From Anywhere Here is based on the true story of my mother and uncle, set in both England and Australia, beginning in the 1920s. I'm writing it in the form of a novel because it offers me the greatest creative freedom to describe this true story from several differing perspectives.

I'm pleased to say I recently completed the first full draft (it only took me 4 years...). However, the full edit is proving very challenging and I'm currently uncertain about how long this will now take.

To spur me on I have received a letter of interest from a major publisher, although as I write this I am yet to secure an agent (actually, I've hardly tried in this regard, preferring to complete the creative process first).

Although not entirely connected a recent BBC documentary, which includes interviews with some of my family, is relevant to this book – 'Mixed Britannia: 1940 – 1965'. If you pay close attention you will even see some footage of a two-year old me.
